About Us

As I’ve said in my profile, we are a homeschooling family of seven, with one on the way and four in heaven.

My children are:

“Joe” (11)
“Jem” (9)
“Cate” (8)
“Felicity” (6)
“Angela” (4)
Anthony (He’s brand new!)

Baby Rose (lost to miscarriage on 1/04/06)
Baby Francis (lost to miscarriage on 1/24/07)
Baby Lucia (lost to miscarriage on 12/13/07)
Baby Thomas (lost to miscarriage on on 4/14/08)

And of course, Ellie the Dog.

We are currently in our 7th year of home schooling and have home schooled since the get go. Sometimes I am asked what made us decide to home school, and I reply quite honestly that I don’t know. We just always knew that this would be a good fit for our family. I was a teacher in a previous life and am thankful for the love of teaching (and learning) that God has planted in my heart.

Is this to say that you need a teaching degree to home school? Certainly not. Never assume that you are not qualified to teach your son or daughter (or grandchild or neighbor) because you don’t have a “degree”.

We follow the Seton curriculum, which is both beautifully Catholic and academically rock solid. We supplement as necessary (for fun and variety) with material from Sonlight, Catholic Heritage Curricula, The Well-Trained Mind and other sources.

I have been greatly inspired by the teaching philosophies of Maria Montessori and Charlotte Mason, as well as that of the Real Learning methods introduced by fellow Catholic home schooling mom & blogger, Elizabeth Foss.

Are we always going to home school? (I get this question a lot, also.) I don’t know. Talk to us in ten years.
